City staff administer the zoning ordinance on a day-to-day basis and will play a key role in identifying areas where improvements in the current ordinance can be made. These departments include:

Knoxville City Council

Council approved the project in May 2016 and its members will be actively engaged throughout the zoning update.

City Council must approve all amendments to the City’s zoning ordinance, including regulations within zoning ordinances and map amendments of zoning districts in the City. Council will make the final votes on adoption of a new ordinance at the conclusion of the update process.
