May 17 and 18 were busy with meetings for the Recode Knoxville zoning code update.
Arista Strungys and Chris Jennette, the Camiros consultants assisting the City and MPC with the project, spent those two days presenting an overview of the project to various groups.
On Wednesday, May 17, a presentation was given to the Knoxville Chamber to help inform local business leaders about the project and ways they can be involved. Later that day, the same presentation was given to the Zoning Ordinance Stakeholder Advisory Committee. This group is made up of representatives from business, neighborhood, environmental, and other groups from the community. Their role is to act as liaisons by relaying issues identified by the community groups they represent and ensuring that staff and consultants working on the update address them. A list of questions and answers from the general discussion held after the presentation can be found in the meeting minutes. MPC’s Executive Director Gerald Green also emphasized that MPC and City staff are available to meet with groups outside of public meetings if requested.
On the following day, the community kickoff for the project was held at Central United Methodist Church in the historic Fourth and Gill neighborhood. Speaking to more than 100 community members, Mayor Madeline Rogero and MPC’s Gerald Green welcomed the crowd and then turned it over to Camiros. They once again presented information on the update. That presentation, which was used at all three meetings, is available on the project website. The presentation was also recorded by CTV and can be viewed on the meeting recap page. The meeting wrapped up with an open house where community members spoke one-on-one with MPC, City and Camiros Staff. Feedback and comments from the meeting will be available soon.
